spoons
Spoon carving is a passion

I enjoy spoon carving, this is what I do when I can't think of anything else to do, when I get stressed, and when I just need to make something beautiful, either as a gift or to get back to the fundamentals.
Spoons are my therapy to life's stuff!
To carve a spoon is never a waste of time.... I think of them as functional art. They may be just a craft! Or a tool, I don't care. The point to me is they are part of a well stocked kitchen. These are tools that are such a pleasure to use, serving with an elegant wood hand carved spoon, or cooking a fine meal using one is just good.
I am a tool junkie, I collect fine hand tools, my whole life evolves around their use as this is how I make stuff and a living. One thing I have learned is that a fine tool makes for pleasurable work. Cooking is work to some a chore to endure for others how ever you chose to look at it, we all have to do it. So the fine tools rule applies here in my mind. I have been carving them for over 25 years now, and more now then I ever have, still love to do it.
I think of the person who will use this finely crafted humble tool and how it will fit in their hand LEFT or Right, Some are designed for the lefty some for both. My thoughts wonder over what kind of food, spices, flavors, style of food. Who will be serving and who will be served, the sounds of laughter and joy around the tables, or silence portioning with this quiet little instrument.
Spatulas and Spurtal's they are also a pleasure to use and to make. They all have a long history in every culture. Some fine examples of spoons from lost times preserved in museums around the globe. Some over a hundred years old still being used every day in one kitchen I know of. Handed down as treasured heirlooms, along with some mighty fine recipes. I have added a spoon or two to that collection hopeing that down the path someone else will treasure them as much as those using them today.
