Heart, Hand and Eye

The heart hand and eye excercies was the recreation of a jewelry box, James Krenov made. each one of us made a box... there where a few choices, species of wood, tray or not, lock if you wanted... I choose Eastern Maple and to include a tray as well as the lock I also choose to put a very ,very slight curve in my dove tails
This jewel box was special to me for a few reasons, it was one of Jim's favorites and Robert's and a great exercise that proved to be a challenge (like most of the work at the school) and I had a plan to incorperate it into my wedding as a surprise gift to my bride as it was to contain our rings,,, Lucky (my dog was to be the ring bearer as far as my bride knew, but I switched the plan and the rings for the key to the box,,, Lucky did his part right on "Q" he bounded up the isle just like we planed and I removed the little pouch from around his neck and pulled out the KEY instead of the rings and while every one was distracted by Lucky's entrance Rick my best man got and presented the box,,, Dee was stunned to say the least she had never seen the box in her visits to the school... I handed her the key and she opened the box to find the rings in the tray,,, all in all it turned out very well,,,, The box wasn't bad either.

Transformations on the shore

The week was intense and exausting ,,,it felt good to ROAR!!! See a great bunch of friends again, though the visiting was to short the gang did some "AMAZIN " works this year!!! It is such a pleasure to be in such talented company for this event.
It takes a lot of people to make it happen!!!

The people who do a tremendous job are HARD working volunteers who take time out of their busy sckedules of life to make this all happen and treat us so well it truely is a wonderful expierance... Many do this year after year taking time off work and out of retirement to be there doing every thing they can to help ,,, and there is no shortage of work to be done.

AWARDS TIME 1st place in Semi Pro Goes to ....

I have never won an award in compatition and this was a first for me usualy I don't consider it important this year however I wanted to do well and move from Semi-pro to the Professional catagory. So winning was important to make that transition.
With a lot of support for that move and encouragement (kidding and prodding and challenges) from my fellow carvers, I signed up for the Professional catagory,,,Now I'm in the big boys sand box....

RAVEN...

This carving is one I feel is one of my best so far,,, The idea was a simple figure draped in a blanket to be completed in two days... I got most of the way through the carving and hurt myself so I had to take a week off to get back to it. I took another full day to complete the carving and very grateful that I got the time and took the time to do it well. The log was an old growth fir,,, slower to carve and harder on the equipment yet worth it,,,
I like it mostly because it has more of a feeling of a sculpture then a chainsaw carving.
